A man in New York died after being attacked by "several dogs," and now authorities are investigating the mauling.
Albany police responded to reports of the attack around 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived they noticed the man being bitten by the group of dogs, police said in a news release shared on the department's Facebook.
To try to stop the attack, one of the responding officers pulled out their duty weapon and shot at least one of the dogs, according to the Facebook post.
The unidentified man was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
Police wrangled all the dogs up and are placing them in a facility, according to the release.
The investigation into the attack is active and ongoing, the department said.
Around 30 to 50 people die from dog bites each year, according to the National Library of Medicine.
